Involve the whole family with Home dog obedience training!

There is a common misconception with new dog owners that only one person in a family should take on the responsibility of training and obedience. When you really stop to think about it, this approach to in-home dog obedience training makes very little sense. As a dog owner you surely want your dog to listen, respect and obey all members of your family, right? Than why designate the training to only one person? All this will do is ensure that your dog will obey only one person in your family.Home dog obedience training can be frustrating and difficult. To some, the idea of involving the family may seem like one more unnecessary step. The truth is, there is plenty of reward when the entire family takes part in training their new four-legged companion. Not only will your dog become obedient to all members of your household, but your family will learn a great deal as well.
For example, have any children in the house participate in the positive reinforcement portion of your home dog obedience training. In almost all cases, the children in the family will be the most excited about the arrival of a new puppy. You can use this to your advantage. One of the most important elements in any obedience training session is the reward that the dog receives after following a command, or completing a task. Designate the children to be the huggers, treat and praise givers and play-time companions for when the dog has been successful. Your new puppy, or dog will love the abundance of attention and love. Your kids will appreciate being involved and feel they had a part in their dog’s home obedience training.
It is also important to alternate who gives your dog his commands and who disciplines him after bad behavior. Having the entire family partake in your dog’s obedience training is fun, rewarding and will lead to a happier, more well-rounded family dog.
