What is Residential Dog Training?
Life itself often gets in the way and when you want to train your dog to behave, that priority is usually the first to go in favor of other factors such as your job, relationships and lifestyle changes. When you simply do not have the time to train your dog on your own or even get him to daily or weekly local classes, it is time to seek residential dog training. It is important to note that why residential training for dogs can be quite successful, it may not be for every dog or for that matter, every dog owner. Residential dog training involves your dog actually living at the training facility – residentially – during the whole training program. Consider the idea akin to shipping your dog off to a kennel or boot camp, only with residential training, a trainer is assigned to your dog.
During residential dog training, the trainer meets with you to understand your overall temperament and management styles in dealing with your dog. They will also get to know your dog, its lifestyle at home and the challenges you have in the dog’s behavior. The trainer will work hard to gain the trust of your dog and bond with him in order for training to be more successful. In addition, the dog trainer will set realistic expectations on what your dog should and can expect to learn during this residential training session.
Of course, while the majority of the training is completed off-site, away from home, you as the owner must still commit some time with the training process. Once the trainer has established basic obedience training with your dog, you must also learn the commands and learn how to establish authority and trust with your dog. The trainer also will prescribe a basic training program for home to keep up and even enhance the skills already learned by your dog.
Residential dog training is perfect for owners and their dogs that have not been very successful with training on their own. It can be quite intense but if your dog is receptive to it, both of you will benefit in the long run.
