Stopping Puppies Chewing
Training a puppy can be quite hard work, but the rewards are worth it in the end. There are many things that a puppy needs to be taught as it progresses into adulthood. One of these is that your puppy needs to learn not to chew things that are not his. These are some tips for Stopping Puppies Chewing.
If you are trying to train your puppy to stop it from chewing you should start by buying it some chew toys. You need to teach the dog that these are the only things they can chew. Do not make the mistake of giving your puppy an old shoe that used to belong to you to chew – how is he supposed to know that he can have that particular shoe, but not your nice new designer shoes? Anything that is not specifically designed for dogs should not be given to him to chew.
While your puppy is learning not to chew, it is important not to put temptation in his way. So make sure that you do not leave any of your belongings out that the puppy might chew. You need to keep shoes, purses, leashes, and anything else they like to chew away from them. It’s no good complaining and shouting at your puppy if you find he has just chewed your brand new handbag, he does not know any better – it is up to you to keep things out of his reach at this stage in his puppy training.
At this point it might be best to leave them in an indoor cage when you have to be away. When you do this make sure the cage is large enough for them to lay down and to stand up. They should have their belongings (such as their chew toys, a blanket, etc) and food and water available to them as well. Puppies soon get used to an indoor cage (also known as crate), and quite enjoy having their own personal space.
Training puppies can be very difficult but if you are dedicated to your new family member you can get it done in little time and have a nice long life together – in no time at all you will have stopped your puppy from chewing the wrong things.
